Happy NSD!  Samantha with you to share some tips for a technique I use on almost every layout; mixing and matching patterned papers.  But before we dive into that, I get to share a little about myself and my crafty habits!

What’s your favorite type of paper crafting? I really love creating mini albums! I make them in any size out of just about anything.
Where do you go for inspiration? I like to look at home decor and interior decorator sites (especially on Pinterest) for color combo inspiration. I’ve found the fashion industry is also a great place to find current trends in colors and textures.
Where do you do your crafting? I am truly thankful to have a room dedicated to my crafting. It’s stuffed full of lots of re-purposed and second hand storage options.
What are your favorite crafting tools? All of them! I am a tool junkie. I love trying out new tools as well as using lots of old tried and true ones.
What are your favorite Paper House products? The Puffy Stickers. These are not the puffy stickers of your childhood! They are whimsical and rich looking, and just so fun!
What are your favorite colors to work with? I tend to gravitate towards blues and greens.
How would you describe your crafting style? My style tends to be clean and simple. I also like to watch current trends and blend them into my style.
Do you like it quiet while you work or do you have music or tv on? I love to have Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon on in the background. Have any good series suggestions for me?
What’s your go to snack/drink while you craft? I tend not to snack when I craft, but I do love coffee anytime.

Just like any technique, some people are pros at it without ever thinking about how they do it, some people love it after some practice, and some people will decide it’s just not for them. No matter what your experience level is with mixing and matching patterned papers, I’d love to hear about (and see!) your experiences with this technique.

If you’re new to mixing and matching patterned papers, the best thing to do is stick to one paper collection (like I did here by using One Big Happy Family). As you get more comfortable working with lots of patterned papers at once, you can pull papers from multiple collections.

The second thing to look for is a patterned “neutral”. Here my patterned neutral is the woodgrain paper. It’s manly one color, with no big bold patterns on it. A patterned neutral  will help ground your layout and keep things from looking too busy.

The third thing I always try to find is a patterned paper that has all of the colors of the other papers and embellishments you plan to use in it. It will help tie everything together and will make your layout look cohesive instead of disjointed. On this layout, the blue patterned paper is the paper that serves in that capacity.

Play around with the order of your layers. I pull out all the papers I’m thinking about using and I start to layer them up in different piles. I pull out or add papers based on how I think they look together. For example, on this layout I tried the blue patterned paper on top, and I tried the red patterned paper on top. For whatever reason, the red paper looked wrong on top, but fantastic underneath the blue paper.

Finally, don’t be afraid to use your embellishments to tie all your patterns together even more. I used label stickers from Everyday Moments Labels to pull more pinks and reds into the layout, which in turn helped the red patterned paper layer pop a bit more.

April Planner Decorating

my-bio-picHello friends, Katty here to share my April monthly spread in my Everyday Moments Planner. I tend to work better with the monthly view. I like to see my month planned out in front of me. I am using this planner to organize my crafty commitments. This is why it is blank. As my commitments are scheduled I will fill them in. I love my Everyday Moments Planner. I am in love with colors and the divider images. For April I decided to add a floral spring theme.

April Planner Decorating Supply List:

I looked through my beautiful Paperhouse collections and decided to add some elements from the One Big Happy Family Papercrafting Kit. There is a beautiful floral patterned paper which was perfect to add to my spread.

I began with one of the floral patterned papers from the kit. I fussy cut the white flowers and some of the leaves. I decided to add three clusters of flowers on my spread. I wanted to bring in some of the colors from the beautiful banner at the top of the page so I pulled out my gelatos and used my finger to smudge some color behind the areas where my flowers will go. I used pinks and purples. I just wanted the color to peek out from behind the floral clusters. I love how that turned out. I also added in some of the adorable feather 2″ stickers coming out from behind the floral clusters. The feathers added additional color and a whimsical look.

The planner itself brings three sticker sheets. I used the month sticker up top. I also used a gold foil sticker at the bottom of the right hand side along with two hearts.

I cut a few squares in the patterned papers from the One Big happy Family collection and added them to random days of the month. I also added the 2″ Floral Heart stickers over a few of the patterned papers. I love how it turned out. Once I add in all of my commitments it will look super busy but for now I am enjoying the simple beauty of it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! XOXO -Katty

Everyday Moments Planner

renee-timmerman

Hi! Renee here to show you how I utilized the new Paper House Productions Planner: Everyday Moments. I think like everyone is jumping on the new planner craze and I’m so excited about it! Maybe because I’m obsessed with everything planner related. I admit though- sometimes I’m horrible at actually USING it. So I’m giving a new try with this planner!

Planner2

I decided to start with the month of April! What’s great about these planners are they have no start month, so you can literally decide where you want to begin. Each planner come with 3 sticker sheets that are already attached inside the beginning of your planner that coordinate with the planner. The first sheet comes with month labels you can use for the designated month.  So I peeled the month of April off which goes perfectly with the colors already on the monthly spread.

For special days, I wanted to include a picture of them instead of words just to add a different touch to the planner. So I printed off a picture of my niece who’s birthday is on the 9th and my cat ( yes, don’t judge me) on the 19th. The 2×2 size fits  almost perfectly in to the spots.  The other sticker sheets included also have little stickers for birthdays, doctor appointments and other events so I included the little birthday cake on each of their pictures.

planner1

I kind of skipped the first week spread because it’s honestly- well not exciting. So I decorated the next one because it included Addison’s birthday!  Again, the pages are blank so you’re able to label however you want- which is great! I decided this week just to use my own penmanship/calligraphy skills to make giant numbers for the dates. Addison’s  birthday I included some fun stickers- also on the sticker sheets from the planner. I loved the aqua color so all the aqua stickers just spilled on to the date.

Each date I also just placed a line to separate the boxes so I could keep my work out written down. I always like looking back and seeing how I progressed with my work outs as well as keep tabs on how many miles I’ve ran.

I hope you enjoyed my look at the planner! I’m excited to keep documenting during the month’s and showing you how I utilize this planner! I also can’t wait to see how you use your planner!! As always, if you want to learn more about Renee, check out my personal blog for more posts of my work!
